Playing with her twin sister Janani.
Vaishnavi and her twin sister Janani were born in 2016. Once the babies were born, severely underweight, their father’s mother told the nurse that they should only save one. Our social worker intervened and instructed the nurse to save both girls. Later, the twins’ mother disclosed that her mother-in-law was pressuring her to get rid of the girls, and wasn’t willing to let them live with her anymore. Her husband didn’t meet his daughters for almost 6 months because his mother refused to allow him to visit.
On top of these injustices, their mother’s milk wasn’t enough to feed them and the babies were feverish. Our social workers provided them with milk powder, multi-vitamins, and medical attention. As Vaishnavi and Janani grew, so did their family’s outlook. Their mother’s mother was infamous in the village because she had killed 4 of her own daughters, but she had started to support her daughter as she saw her struggling to raise Vaishnavi and Janani. Their father has begun to connect with the girls.
However, the twins still depend on the support of sponsors to receive food and healthcare. Your monthly support is vital for their continued growth!
