Priyadharshini’s family was full of conflict and threats. Her father did not love her or her sister, Mahalakshmi. During her mother’s third pregnancy with her little sister Nivetha, her father threatened to abort the baby if it were another girl. He sent his pregnant wife and two daughters away to her family's home, where she would eventually give birth to little Nivetha.
Priyadharshini’s mother came down with a serious case of chicken pox, but the father didn’t take his wife’s sickness seriously. Priyadharshini’s mother died two days after being hospitalized. Her father went missing after her mother’s death, and hasn’t been in contact with Priyadharshini or her two sisters since. The girls’ grandmother had heard about our social workers through a women’s group in the village and knew she could trust them for help.
The girls miss their mother and cry for her frequently. Their loving grandparents are struggling to take over the missing role of the girls’ father and provide the essentials they need. With your sponsorship, they will continue to receive the medical attention and nutritional supplements they need.
This is why your sponsorship matters. Not only are you providing them with food and essentials to help care for them, but you are making them feel loved, nurtured, and seen.
