My Story

Before Senthamil was born, a fortune teller predicted the baby girl would put a curse on the family. Because of this prediction, Senthamil’s father’s family tried to force her mother to kill Senthamil when she was born.

Her father was paralyzed for three years after an accident that his parents blamed Senthamil for. Senthamil’s father believed she had cursed him and hated her for it. Her mother borrowed money to help her husband’s medical condition, but nothing helped. Soon after, their home was taken by debt collectors. Her father despaired and ultimately ended his life.

Senthamil’s mother and her older brothers work as manual laborers to provide for the family. Senthamil and her brothers depend on a free meal at school to eat. She sometimes sees her school friends receiving love from their fathers and is saddened that she doesn’t have that. She often cries listening to her grandmother and the villagers blame her for her father’s death. 

Our staff was able to be there for the family during Senthamil’s father’s hospital visits, as well as provide clothes, bed sheets, and towels for the children. We were able to grieve with the family, and try to educate Senthamil’s grandparents about her value.

Senthamil is now getting love and care from our staff and protection from emotional abuse. With your help, we can continue to provide Senthamil with a safe life and remind her she is loved and valued.
