Before Poorvika was born, her grandmother threatened to kill her unless the baby was taken to an orphanage. Our staff immediately intervened and advocated for her life. Poorvika’s father was an alcoholic who started abusing his wife for giving birth to a girl, and his mother followed his example and told her daughter-in-law to kill herself. Poorvika’s mother was afraid to be alone with her husband after he came home drunk and tried to choke her.
After this, we knew we had to intervene for Poorvika and her mother again. We took action with the village president to protect them from abuse and harassment. With your sponsorship, we can continue to provide milk and food supplements for Baby Poorvika, protect her and her mother from her father’s abuse, and ensure they have access to medical care.
