My Story

Pranavi’s father only wanted sons because he falsely believed boys had more value than girls and that girls would be a burden on the family. When his wife gave birth to their first child, a son, he was overjoyed. He celebrated the birth of his son greatly. But when his wife gave birth to their second child, a daughter named Pranavi, her father did not celebrate her birth at all. Instead, he rejected her and refused to care for her.

As she grew up, Pranavi’s father had strict plans to marry her off when she came of age instead of educating her. He believed that since she was a girl, there was no point in educating her. Instead, he gave his resources to his son to be educated. Pranavi’s mother, desperate to keep her daughter from becoming a child bride, got in touch with our social workers. Our social workers were able to intervene on Pranavi’s behalf by confronting her father for his negligence and counseling him to change his mindset on women. After many meetings with our partners, Pravani’s father has agreed to send her to school instead of marrying her off.

Your sponsorship ensures Pravani is safe, enrolled in school, and receiving a good education. It also provides her with ongoing support and counseling from our social workers who are teaching her the value and worth of being a girl!
