My Story

Tharani’s parents only wanted sons who could carry on their family name. After the birth of their two daughters, her parents were extremely disappointed. They severely neglected Tharani and her sister for being girls. They refused to enroll the girls in school to be educated and instead made Tharani and her sister do household work.

Their parents did not believe it was important for girls to be educated—they thought the role of a girl was to learn household work and get married as young as possible. Our social workers were notified of Tharani’s situation and were able to confront her parents for their negligence and, ultimately, intervene on her behalf.

Your sponsorship ensures Tharani is enrolled in school rather than becoming a child laborer or a child bride. It also provides her with ongoing support and counseling from our social workers who are teaching her the value of being a girl!
