My Story

Harshita is the only daughter in a family that prefers sons over daughters. Her parents and two older brothers falsely believe that daughters are a burden on their family. They often left her without basic care and sufficient food. She eventually was sent by her family to a government school that gave her food during the day so they did not have to worry about feeding her or providing for her. When Harshita turned nine, her family forced her to leave school and become a bonded labor worker. After three months of working, she was sent home because she did not have enough energy to work due to her lack of nutrients and sufficient food.

Harshita’s grandmother was the only family member who wanted to see her taken care of, so she reached out to our social workers for help. Our partners were able to intervene on Harshita’s behalf and get her to safety. Your sponsorship allows Harshita to go to school and live in a safe home where she is protected from neglect, abuse, and forced child labor. She is safe, has access to nutritious food and education, and most importantly, she is being told truth: she is loved, she is valuable, she is worthy.
