My Story

Harini’s father only wanted sons in his family because he falsely believed that having daughters would only be a financial burden. Her mother, who was married very young, suffered health complications from numerous pregnancies. Over time, as Harini’s mother had given birth to her and her two sisters, her husband began to severely neglect her for only producing girls, whom he saw as burdens.

After the birth of her three daughters, Harini’s mother finally gave birth to a son. Her husband was overjoyed, but her health began to decline from the pregnancy and she was no longer able to work. Her husband decided that his three daughters should become bonded laborers and provide for the family instead of being educated. Desperate to save her daughters from her husband’s negligence and discrimination, Harini’s mother reached out to our social workers to explain her situation. Once our social workers learned about Harini and her sisters, they were able to confront her father and intervene on behalf of the girls.

Your sponsorship ensures Harini is enrolled in school and receiving a good education rather than becoming a child laborer. It also allows Harini to receive ongoing support and counseling from our social workers who are teaching her that she is loved and valued as a girl.
