Teja Sri’s father deeply desired a son. When his wife gave birth to their first child, their daughter Teja Sri, he was deeply disappointed. Teja Sri’s mother fell in love with her but her father rejected her for being a girl. He refused to celebrate her birth and began to severely neglect Teja Sri by not providing her mother with an appropriate amount of money to care for her well. Teja Sri’s mother frequently had to ask the neighbors for help to feed her because her husband would not provide her with the resources.
So Teja Sri’s mother decided to go to work to earn money to care for her daughter. While his wife worked, Teja Sri’s father would send Teja Sri to work to clean bowls, even as a young girl, so that she would be able to contribute to her father and relieve him of his burden of having a daughter. Teja Sri’s mother eventually got in touch with our social workers and asked for help. Our social workers were able to confront Teja Sri’s father for his negligence and intervene on her behalf.
Teja Sri is safe and your sponsorship ensures she is enrolled in school and receiving an education rather than becoming a child laborer. It also provides her with ongoing support and counseling from our social workers who are teaching her the value of being a girl!
