My Story

Hemasri was born to a poor family—both her parents worked on a farm for very low daily wages. For quite a while, her parents were unable to have a child. When her mother finally became pregnant, her father eagerly expected a boy. After Hemasri was born, her father ignored her completely because of his deep disappointment that she was a girl. Her father neglected her, refusing to give her proper food and care. 

Our social workers learned about Hemasri through one of her relatives and were able to warn her father of the legal ramification of his actions. Our social workers have committed to regularly visiting Hemasri and monitoring her well-being.
