Rescued from selective mortal neglect
Telugu
Playing with her siblings.
Rajeswari was born into a vulnerable fishing community where child marriage, neglect, and exploitation are tragically common. Her parents, Rajesh and Venkataramanamma, were married very young—he was only 16 and she was just 14, as early marriage is considered normal in their community. At the age of 16, Venkataramanamma gave birth to their daughter, Rajeswari.
The family lived along the roadside with no stability, identity, or access to basic needs. In this community, the birth of a girl child is often unwelcome. Many girls are abandoned because families cannot afford to feed them. Those who remain are frequently sent as bonded labourers to work in duck farms or are pushed into early marriage or trafficking. Education is almost non-existent, and the girl children grow up without safety, protection, or opportunities.
Girls like Rajeswari face extreme neglect and constant risk from the moment they are born. With no security, no schooling, and no recognition of their rights, their lives remain in danger every day.
Rajeswari’s situation is considered an emergency, as without intervention she is at high risk of abandonment, child labour, trafficking, or early marriage.
