Jesintha’s parents were unable to care for her sufficiently as a child. Her father, often abusing alcohol and unwilling to accept Jesintha as his child because she is a girl, abandoned their family when she was young. Her mother worked as a housekeeper and earned minimal wages. Over time, Jesintha was sent to live with her grandparents who cared for her as well as they could.
Due to her family’s poverty, they lived in a house that had no proper door—which left Jesintha open to the elements and in the reach of danger. Jesintha’s grandmother was able to get in touch with some of our social workers who were able to rescue her and bring her to live in one of our safe homes. Your sponsorship ensures Jesintha is enrolled in school and receiving a good education. She is also a talented dancer, and she can grow in her dancing skills at the home! Your sponsorship also provides her with ongoing resources, support, and counseling from our social workers who are teaching her the value of being a girl!
