Silarbee’s family falsely believed that girls were a waste and boys were the only valuable members of a family. Her mother, although unsupported by the rest of the family, tried her best to care for Silarbee and loved her. After some time, Silarbee’s mother had two sons. The rest of the family rejoiced at the birth of Silarbee’s brothers, and quickly began to express their desire for Silarbee to be married off as a child bride so she no longer would be a burden on their family.
After Silarbee’s father passed away from cancer, her mother was constantly pressured by relatives to marry Silarbee and focus her care on her sons. As other family members were arranging a marriage for Silarbee, a concerned village volunteer reached out to our social workers regarding the marriage. After learning about Silarbee, our social workers were able to intervene on her behalf and rescue her from becoming a child bride. Your sponsorship ensures Silarbee is enrolled in a good school and receiving an education! It also provides her with nutritious food and ongoing counseling support from our social workers who are teaching her the value of being a girl!
