My Story

Mahira, a young girl with a liking for humor, was once the vibrant soul of her home, her laughter echoing through the halls. Her mother, Zarina, lovingly dubbed her the "life of our home." But tragedy struck in 2018 when Mahira's father succumbed to illness, leaving their world shattered.

Their own relatives, instead of offering support, callously turned them away, denying them even their belongings. Seeking solace, Zarina took Mahira and her sisters to her maternal family, only to be met with shocking indifference. They deemed supporting the girls a waste of resources, refusing to offer any aid.

Mahira's family, lacking a male protector, faced further cruelty as their own kin denied them a share of the inheritance, citing archaic beliefs that it belonged to future husbands' families. Enduring daily torment, Mahira and her mother suffered verbal and physical abuse from their maternal relatives, who saw educating the girls as futile.

The pressure mounted as the family relentlessly pushed for early marriages, fearing the burden of dowries if the girls pursued education. For Mahira, each day brought fear and uncertainty. The looming threat of forced marriage haunted her, overshadowing her dreams of becoming a doctor to help others.

Witnessing Mahira's decline, her once lively spirit dimming, raised alarm bells. She confided in those around her, revealing the grim reality of her situation. Her maternal grandparents were adamant about marrying her off prematurely, robbing her of her childhood and future.

Moved by Mahira's plight, a social worker intervened, rallying support for the family. They empowered Zarina to stand firm against the pressures of early marriage, highlighting the dire consequences it posed for the girls' well-being.

In the face of adversity, Mahira's resilience shines through. With unwavering support, she clings to hope, determined to defy the odds stacked against her. For Mahira, the fight for her future has only just begun, but with courage and determination, she refuses to let anyone dictate her destiny.

If you choose to sponsor Mahira, you will play a part in providing her with the opportunity to create a better life for herself. Under IGP’s care, she will receive a strong education, the ability to have a better childhood, and consistent care for her needs. With your help, Mahira will begin to understand that she is loved and valued.
