Dharani was neglected by her parents for being a girl. Never being treated as an equal to her older brother, Dharani was forced to both work in the field and do household work while her parents only required her brother to study in school. Considering her a burden on their family, Dharani’s parents planned to marry her off as a child bride so she would no longer be in their household. IGP’s social workers came to know about Dharani through one of her relatives who were concerned for her wellbeing. After learning about her situation, IGP’s social workers were able to confront her parents for their negligence and intervene on Dharani’s behalf. Your sponsorship ensures Dharani is enrolled in school and receiving an education rather than becoming a child laborer or a child bride. It also provides her with nutritious food and ongoing counseling support from IGP’s social workers who are teaching her the value of being a girl.
