My Story

Six year old Akshaya was born into a family of daily wage farm laborers. Her birth brought disappointment to her parents, who believed only boys carry the family name. When her younger brother was born, the family showered him with love while neglecting Akshaya. She was made to do household chores and care for the baby. Her father often called her a burden and said it would have been better if she hadn’t been born.

An Anganwadi teacher brought Akshaya’s case to IGP’s attention. When our social workers visited the family, the father dismissed Akshaya and said he planned to send her to work soon. Despite our efforts to counsel them, he refused to listen.

Our team involved the local ANM, who warned the parents of legal consequences for child labor and gender discrimination. Fearful, they agreed to care for Akshaya, though they still require regular counseling to change their mindset.

IGP’s social worker enrolled Akshaya in our Child Sponsorship Program, giving her the chance to grow in a safe, caring environment and helping her parents begin to see her true worth.

By choosing to sponsor Akshaya, you will provide her with the opportunity to continue her education and build a brighter future. Through IGP’s care, she will receive quality education and consistent support to meet her needs. Your sponsorship will show her that she is loved, valued, and deserving of every opportunity to thrive.
