My Story

Akshara faces severe neglect and abuse within her family. Her parents, daily wage laborers, prioritize her older brother while ignoring and mistreating her. The grandmother blames Akshara for the father's minor accident, calling her bad luck and often verbally and physically abusing her. 

The mother, unable to earn, is powerless to protect Akshara from discrimination and abuse. Akshara is denied proper food and care, unlike her brother, who receives affection and attention. 

IGP Social workers learned of Akshara’s plight through a relative and visited the family. Initially dismissive, the father and grandmother were counseled about the legal and moral implications of their behavior. Fearing consequences, they reluctantly agreed to care for Akshara. 

The social workers plan regular visits and continued counseling to change the family’s mindset and ensure Akshara is treated with the love and care every child deserves.
