Pujitha was a 1.5-month-old baby girl whose father worked as a daily-wage farm laborer, and her mother was a housewife. According to their tradition, a firstborn boy was believed to bring good luck, so her father was disappointed when Pujitha was born. Upset by the birth of a girl, he began to fight with his wife, blaming her for having a daughter and often beating her. He also mistreated Pujitha, kicking and shaking her simply because she was a girl. The father neglected both Pujitha and her mother, creating a dangerous and abusive environment for them.
Neighbors reported the abuse to IGP social workers. On their visits, the father was initially uncooperative, but the social workers explained that further mistreatment could lead to legal action. The father promised to improve his behavior, though the social workers knew he needed more counseling to change his attitudes toward girls.
Your sponsorship ensures Pujitha is receiving proper food and nutrition for her overall development as well as ongoing counseling support from IGP’s social workers who are providing her with a safe environment to grow. More than that she will learn that she is loved and valued as a girl.
