At-risk of child marriage

Shamsheer and Shahina were married in a community where having a male heir is seen as a path to heaven, making a son highly desirable. When Shahina gave birth to a baby girl, her family was disappointed and unwilling to accept the child. Shamsheer blamed Shahina, frequently quarreling and accusing her of being responsible for having a daughter. Concerned for her daughter’s future, Shahina sought help from a social worker, and with the support of her parents, they appealed to her husband to value their child. A nurse even clarified that the father determines a child’s gender, but Shamsheer refused to change his views. Finally, the social worker informed him about child marriage laws, which frightened him into agreeing not to force his daughter into an early marriage.
Later, Shahina conceived again and gave birth to another daughter, Samina. When he learned that Shahina could not have more children, Shamsheer became even angrier, viewing both daughters as burdens. He often expressed that he planned to “get rid” of them through early marriage. Realizing his intentions, Shahina grew fearful but resolved to protect her daughters from the fate he envisioned.
