My Story

Ankitha was a four-month-old baby girl, the only child of her poor, daily-wage laborer parents. They had hoped for a son to carry on the family name and were disappointed when she was born. Her father blamed Ankitha for their troubles, neglecting and mistreating her because of her gender.

Ankitha’s mother stayed home to care for the baby, which only angered her father more, as he believed the child was the source of their financial problems.

A concerned neighbor alerted the social workers about the family’s abuse. When the social workers visited, the parents denied mistreating Ankitha, but the father admitted he saw her as bad luck. The social workers explained that such beliefs were wrong and warned the parents about legal consequences. They provided counseling to help the parents understand that Ankitha was not to blame for their problems.

Despite these efforts, the father did not change. The social workers knew Ankitha needed Early Childhood Care for her well-being and planned to continue supporting her and her mother.

Your sponsorship ensures Ankitha is receiving proper food and nutrition for her overall development as well as ongoing counseling support from IGP’s social workers who are providing her with a safe environment to grow. More than that she will learn that she is loved and valued as a girl.
