Playing with dolls and balloons
Nitya was constantly pressured and harassed by her husband and in-laws to abort her third child because she was a girl. After 4 attempts to abort her baby, Nitya tried again, at 5 months of pregnancy, to kill her child by taking different types of substances but it did not work.
Once Aburvasri was born, Nitya was emotionally and verbally abused by her husband and his family. They would tell her that her baby girl is worthless and a cost to their family. Nitya then stopped breastfeeding Aburvasri in hopes that she would die. After 20 days without milk, Nitya left her in-laws and went to her mother's house. She had enough of the abuse and wanted her baby girl to live. This is when our social workers found out about Nitya and intervened to help her and counsel her husband and his family.
After counseling sessions from our social workers, Nitya's husband came to accept Aburvasri and his parents now love Aburvasri. Due to the lockdown, Nitya and her husband have not been able to work and are barely able to feed their family.
Your sponsorship ensures Aburvasri is receiving proper food and nutrition for her overall development as well as ongoing counseling support from IGP’s social workers who are providing her with a safe environment to grow. More than that she will learn that she is loved and valued as a girl.
