My Story

From the time Gopika was born, her father and grandmother did not care for her. Gopika’s father was only interested in having sons, so when Gopika was born, her father was immediately disinterested. Eventually, his disinterest became irritation, and finally manifested itself in physical and verbal abuse.

Gopika wasn’t allowed to go to school because her grandmother sent her to work on farms to provide for the family financially. Gopika’s mother was unable to help and also struggled to remain safe and healthy herself. After learning about Gopika’s situation, our social workers were able to intervene on her behalf.

Your sponsorship allows Gopika to go to school and live in a safe home where she is protected from harsh physical abuse, neglect, child labor, and illegal child marriage. She is safe, has access to nutritious food and education, and most importantly, she is being told truth: she is loved, she is valuable, she is worthy!
