Lasya, an 8-year-old girl with an older brother, faced neglect in a family struggling with seasonal farm work. Her parents prioritized their son's education, viewing him as their future provider, while dismissing Lasya's needs as she would eventually marry. She endured physical abuse and was frequently tasked with household and labor work. Despite her desire for education, she was denied the opportunity, longing to attend an English medium school like her brother. IGP social workers intervened after learning of her situation from a neighbor, confronting her parents about the mistreatment. Threatened with legal action, the parents reluctantly agreed to stop the abuse and send Lasya to school. However, ongoing monitoring and counseling were deemed necessary to ensure sustained change, as the parents may still have harbored discriminatory attitudes. The social workers remained optimistic about the family's transformation, believing they would eventually embrace and value their daughter equally.
If you choose to sponsor Lasya, you will play a part in providing her with the opportunity to create a better life for herself. Under IGP’s care, she will receive a strong education, the ability to have a better childhood, and consistent care for her needs. With your help, Lasya will begin to know that she is loved and valued.
