My Story

Lasya, an 8-year-old girl with an older brother, faces neglect in a family struggling with seasonal farm work. Her parents prioritize their son's education, viewing him as their future provider, while dismissing Lasya's needs as she will eventually marry. She endures physical abuse and is frequently tasked with household and labor work. Despite her desire for education, she's denied the opportunity, longing to attend an English medium school like her brother. Social workers intervened after learning of her situation from a neighbor, confronting her parents about the mistreatment. Threatened with legal action, the parents reluctantly agreed to stop the abuse and send Lasya to school. However, ongoing monitoring and counseling are deemed necessary to ensure sustained change, as the parents may still harbor discriminatory attitudes. The social workers remain optimistic about the family's transformation, believing they will eventually embrace and value their daughter equally.
