Rescued from forced child labor
9th grade
Janaki is the only child of her parents, Eswar and Sarifa. She has always been a gentle, soft-spoken, and kind-hearted girl who is deeply dedicated to her academics.
Tragedy struck even before Janaki was born. One day, while purchasing supplies from a shop, her father met with an accident and died. The shock of losing her husband while pregnant affected Janaki’s mother, Mrs. Sarifa, both emotionally and psychologically. A month later, she gave birth to Janaki, but sadly, she passed away during the delivery. With both parents gone, newborn Janaki had no biological relatives to care for her. A kind neighbour took her in and began fostering her.
In the early years, the foster mother cared well for Janaki. But as time passed, her attitude changed. She began to see Janaki as a burden on the family and started neglecting her. Janaki was deprived of basic needs—proper clothing, nutritious food, and peaceful sleep. Instead of being cared for like a child, she was treated like a maid. She was made to wake up early, sleep late, and do all the household chores including sweeping, washing vessels, and running errands.
Janaki was also denied the right to education, learning, and pursuing her dreams. She received no emotional support and lived with constant neglect. She became a victim of child labour and had no one she could depend on or share her feelings with. Many times she wanted to run away, but being a young girl, she was afraid of the outside world and had nowhere to go.
Today, Janaki is studying in 9th standard at St. Anne’s Higher Secondary School. Even now, she refuses to go home during vacations and avoids meeting her guardians during visiting hours at the shelter because the fear, trauma, and memories of abuse still remain. Whenever she is taken home, she is again forced to do household chores and is not allowed to study. Janaki dreams of living a life free from fear and false relationships—one where she is safe, valued, and able to pursue her future.
When IGP’s team came to know about Janaki’s situation, they intervened and brought her to the shelter home. If she had not been protected in time, Janaki would still be neglected, trapped in child labour, and deprived of education and her childhood.
If you choose to sponsor Janaki, you will play a life-changing role in her journey. Through IGP’s care, she will receive a strong education, a safe and loving environment, and the opportunity to experience a childhood she never had. With your support, Janaki will begin to understand that she is loved, valued, and capable of building a hopeful future.
