Rescued from deadly neglect

7th grade
Jeevitha is the eldest of three daughters. She is a bright, soft-spoken, and hardworking girl with a deep desire for education, love, and care.
Tragedy unfolded gradually in her life. Her mother, who had lost both her parents early, was married to a maternal relative. Unfortunately, he was an alcoholic and involved with several women. In the following years, her mother gave birth to three daughters, first Jeevitha, then her sister Jeevithya, and later the youngest girl. Instead of accepting his children, their father grew angry and resentful because he wanted a boy. This disappointment soon turned into abuse and violence toward the mother and the girls. With no support, Jeevitha’s mother often went to church and prayed for strength.
As the years passed, the father’s behaviour became increasingly suspicious. He openly engaged in an extramarital affair, and soon people in the neighbourhood began gossiping about it. When Jeevitha’s mother questioned him, he assaulted her brutally. He then directed his anger toward Jeevitha, blaming her for everything that went wrong in the family simply because she was the eldest. He scolded her using harsh curse words, hit her on the head, and isolated the family from neighbours who were afraid to intervene. Laughter was rare in Jeevitha’s life.
One day, when she was alone at home, her father forced her to pour alcohol into a glass and asked her to sit next to him. When she refused, he verbally abused her and beat her severely with a tuner until she fainted. Her mother found her unconscious and rushed her to the hospital. Her two younger sisters were also going through similar emotional and physical violence.
Jeevitha’s mother was terrified for the safety of her daughters and longed to protect them. Before she could act, the father abandoned the family completely. He took all the money they had and married another woman, openly declaring that he had no love or care for his wife or children.
As the eldest, Jeevitha understood the family’s suffering more deeply than her sisters. She took care of them whenever her mother went to work. She often cried when she was alone, overwhelmed by the misery their lives had become. Realizing the trauma her daughters were facing, their mother finally decided to place them somewhere safe.
Despite the storms in her life, Jeevitha excelled in academics. She consistently secured first rank in her class and was an excellent chess player. However, when she came to the shelter home, she appeared very pale and weak, and her BMI was far below normal due to prolonged neglect.
When the team came to know about Jeevitha’s situation, they intervened and brought her to the shelter home. If she had not been rescued in time, Jeevitha would likely have continued facing abuse, been forced into child labour or babysitting, suffered severe emotional trauma, and lost her chance at education—and possibly her life.
