My Story

When Chandrika’s father died from alcoholism, it left her mother as the sole provider of the family and under immense stress. She was burdened by the responsibilities and stress of supporting her children alone, and she started to hate her children and ultimately stopped caring for them. Chandrika’s older brother was taken in by their aunt, who refused to take in Chandrika because of her gender. Chandrika was left on the side of the road begging for food and shelter. She was alone and in danger of trafficking or starvation.

When we met Chandrika, we acted fast to get her into a safe place. She now lives in a safe home where she has food, clothes, and stability. But Chandrika is often overwhelmed by sadness over the pain she has faced in her short life. Your sponsorship provides her with consistent trauma counseling so that she isn’t left alone with her pain. Your sponsorship also provides her with what she needs to get an education and a future different from what her mother experienced.
