Rescued from selective mortal neglect
Playing with her toys.
Sindhura’s father considered her a burden because she is a girl. Because their family is poor, he believed the only way to find financial freedom was for his wife to give birth to a boy who could carry on his family name. To his disappointment, Sindhura was born. His disappointment manifested itself through severe neglect of Sindhura—often she did not receive proper care, affection, or food simply because she is a girl. Her mother, desperately trying to care for Sindhura alone, would bring her to work on a farm in the hot sun all day.
Our social workers learned about Sindhura after seeing her on the farm with her mother and inquired about her situation. After talking with Sindhura’s mother, social workers were able to confront her husband and intervene on Sindhura’s behalf. Your sponsorship ensures Sindhura is receiving the support, care, and nutrition she needs for her overall development. Even more, she will learn she is loved and valued as a girl.
