Jenifer was sent to live with her grandparents at a young age. Her mother is a housekeeper earning low wages, and her father abused alcohol and was unable to accept Jenifer as his family because she is a girl. Jenifer suffered neglect from many family members, including her uncle who would harass her and her mother because of their gender. Because they couldn’t afford anything else, Jesintha’s grandparents were raising her in an area surrounded by drug abuse and violence.
Jesintha’s grandmother was concerned for her wellbeing and got in touch with our social workers—who were able to rescue Jenifer and bring her to one of our safe homes where all of her physical, mental, and emotional needs are being met. Your sponsorship ensures Jenifer is enrolled in school and receives a good education. It also provides her with ongoing resources, support, and counseling from our social workers who are teaching her the value of being a girl!
