Hemalatha, a girl born into a family where her father desired a male heir. Her father's disappointment led to a drastic change in behavior, involving alcohol abuse and continuous abuse towards his wife and daughters. Despite health issues, Hemalatha's mother sent her to a government-free hostel for safety, where she faced challenges but stayed determined.
During holidays, her father's mistreatment continued, and upon returning home, Hemalatha faced threats of violence. Fearing for her life, she escaped to her grandmother's house, where discussions about arranging her marriage arose. IGP social workers, conducted an awareness program in the village, and Hemalatha sought their help.
Expressing her desire to study and avoid marriage, Hemalatha, along with our social workers, tried to convince her family about the importance of education. However, her father disowned her, and her grandparents persisted in arranging her marriage. Our social workers warned them about the legal consequences of child marriage, emphasizing the need to protect Hemalatha from such a destiny. The story underscores the challenges Hemalatha faced and the efforts made to prevent her from becoming a victim of child marriage.
If you choose to sponsor Hemalatha, you will play a part in providing her with the opportunity to create a better life for herself. Under IGP’s care, she will receive a strong education, the ability to have a better childhood, and consistent care for her needs. With your help, Mayadharshini will begin to understand that she is loved and valued.
