Naveen and Sandhya moved to another village for work after marriage, where Naveen, who valued only male heirs, was disappointed when Sandhya gave birth to two daughters. He adopted his nephew and focused all his attention on him, even forbidding Sandhya from feeding their daughters. Distressed, Sandhya tried to seek support in her home village, but Naveen’s attitude didn’t change. A neighbor suggested she contact a social worker, and with a village volunteer and nurse, they repeatedly tried to make Naveen see the worth of his daughters. Finally, he understood, and the girls were rescued from further neglect, sparing them a future of hardship.
