My Story

Karunya’s father only wanted sons in his family because he falsely believed that having daughters would be a financial burden and refused to believe girls had the same value as boys. Karunya’s mother significantly struggled with mental illness, and soon after Karunya was born, her mother had to move back in with her parents due to her mental illness. Because of that, Karunya was left to stay with her father who severely neglected her for being a girl, even leaving her without proper food and basic care. Concerned for her wellbeing, Karunya’s neighbors reached out to our social workers who were able to confront her father for his negligence and intervene on her behalf. 

Your sponsorship ensures Karunya is enrolled in school and receiving a good education. It also provides her with ongoing support and counseling from our social workers who are teaching her the worth and value of being a girl!
